Can you name the seven dwarfs(小矮人)?If you say Doc,Dopey,Sleepy,Grumpy,Sneezy,

Bashful and Happy, you have shown what a lasting effect this beloved film has on people, for the dwarfs had no names in the Grimm brothers'19th century fairy tale.

In 1934,Walt Disney was famous for his Mickey Mouse, but short cartoons didn't bring in much money.in fact,if it hadn't been for the money,Disney 's brother Roy got for allowing others to sell Disney character products, the partnership might already go broke.

So Disney decided to try for big money. He had seen a silent movie of Snow White when he was a child.“That story has everything:the prince and princess for love, and the dwarfs for fun. It's perfect."So he announced he would make it into a lively one.

To bring the characters to life,Disney wanted every dwarf to have a unique personality. The characters all looked similar,so they were different in their body languages, voices and names.“I've known some bossy doctors,"said Disney,"so called the dwarfs 'leader Doc.""We gave Grumpy a broad shoulder and that made him look strong.Sneezy was serious and responsible,"says the designer Johnston.

A more important means of showing the dwarfs' personalities was in the differences of their walking styles. It took Shamus Culhane almost six months to make the 2,000 drawings. One day, Shamus looked up in a panic:his cigarette had fallen into a pile of drawings on the desk. Unfortunately, some drawings had burnt to within half a centimetre of the figures but none was so badly damaged that it couldn't be photographed for the film.

Disney was running out of money.Bank officials balked at lending any more unless they could see what he had done so far.Disney had to tell part of the story."Well,as everyone knows,"Disney said years later,"we got the loan(贷款)and the picture made money. If it hadn't,there wouldn't be any Disney Studios today.”

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs remains on the list of all-time box-office hits. But by now it is more than a successful movie. It's a treasured memory shared by generations of parents and children.

25.How did Disney and Roy make money before making Snow White?

A.By designing cartoon images for film companies.

B.By shooting Hollywood films based on Disney cartoons.

C.By having others make Disney' character-related products.

D.By making short cartoons of Grimm brothers' fairy tales.

26.Why did Walt Disney choose Snow White as his first lively movie?

A.Because it has a lasting effect on people.

B.Because it could bring in much money.

C.Because the story is a perfect mix of love and fun.

D.Because it was very popular during his childhood.

27.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?

A.Why the dwarfs are so popular.

B.What every dwarf was famous for.

C.How every dwarf got their unique names.

D.How Disney gave every dwarf a different personality.

28.What does he underlined phrase"balked at"in Paragraph 6 probably mean?

A.Completed. B.Considered. C.Allowed. D.Avoided.

29.What do we know about the drawings 'loss?

A.It made Disney run out of money.

B.It caused only a little damage to Disney.

C.It was caused by a fire made on purpose.

D.It made some scenes of the film disappear.

C

Both teachers and students will have goals in the new term. What probably won't be on that list is to make a mistake. If students are afraid of mistakes, they're afraid of trying something new,of being creative,of thinking in a different way. They're as one teacher told me,"victims(牺牲品)of excellence".

Why is this?Because success in school is too often defined(定义)as high marks in tests. Mistakes are only helpful if we believe that the process of learning is more important than getting to the correct answer.

I came across some interesting research about how children learn and what message they take away about mistakes.Carol Dweck,a professor at Stanford University, has carried out a research in this area. One of her experiments asked 400 fifth-graders in New York city schools to take an easy short test,on which almost all performed well.Half the children were praised for"being really smart”。The other half were praised as"having worked really hard".Then they were asked to take a second test and given two choices-either choose one that was pretty simple and they would do well,or choose one that was more challenging but they might make mistakes.Of those students praised for effort,90 percent chose the harder test.Of those praised for being smart, most chose the easy test.

Those with fixed mindsets(观念),as Professor Dweck says, believe that people are good at something-either good at math or music. For those people, mistakes serve no purpose but to highlight failure. Those with growth mindsets believe that some people are better or worse in certain areas but we can all improve and develop our skills and abilities. They are much more likely to be able to accept mistakes because they know they're part of learning.

This doesn't mean,of course, that we can all be world-class chess players, but rather that we all have a much greater ability to develop our potential than we think we do.It takes hard work, however, and we can't do it without taking chances and making mistakes.

I know a group of fourth-grade and fifth-grade teachers in New York, who, inspired by the idea that children need to learn to make and live with mistakes, are developing their own lesson plans to help students examine the ideas of effort, and learn to take risks and accept imperfection and be willing to sit with the uncertainty of not knowing.

It's a big task. But over time,I think we can teach students how to change their idea at least slightly,so they look at mistakes as a very helpful part of learning.

30.According to the passage, why are many students afraid of making mistakes?

A.Because a miss is as good as a mile.

B.Because time and tide wait for no man.

C.Because results are more important than process.

D.Because early mistakes are the seeds of future trouble.

31.What can be inferred from Carol Dweck's research?

A.Smart children are usually unwilling to take risks.

B.Lazy children are more likely to choose simple tests.

C.Slow children are more interested in challenging tasks.

D.Hardworking children are especially afraid of making mistakes.

32.How does the author develop Paragraph 4?

A.By reasoning.

B.By giving examples.

C.By comparing.

D.By listing data.

33.What's the main idea of Paragraph 5?

A.The reason for being a world-class chess player.

B.The reason for developing our potential.

C.The ways of being a world-class chess player.

D.The ways of developing our potential.

34.What's the author's attitude towards the group of fourth and fifth grade teachers in New York?

A.Supportive. B.Doubtful. C.Surprised. D.Uninterested.

35.What would be the best title for the passage?

A.Yes to mistakes,yes to trouble.

B.No to mistakes,no to challenges.

C.Hello to mistakes,hello to success.

D.Goodbye to mistakes,goodbye to failure.

Childhood has changed, and so has children's future.

37 They often play with adults rather than with siblings(兄弟姐妹)or friends, and take part in many organized activities probably for several hours every day.38 Parents want to protect their children from traffic, crime and other danger. They also want to give them every opportunity to achieve success.

Rich parents these days invest(投资)a large amount of time and money in their children to make sure that they will do better than the parents themselves. Those endless extra math, physics, music lessons have proved very useful in securing the good grades. 39

However,working-class parents in America lack the money to take up such parenting. 40 Not so long ago the“American dream"held out the future that everyone, rich or poor, could succeed if they tried hard enough. But a recent report by the World Bank showed that the children from the working-class families are unlikely to achieve great success.

A.But today such children will spend most of their time indoors.
